The Right Approach
Why Early HVAC Planning Matters
The mechanical system is one of the most complex and consequential elements of any new home. Decisions made during the design phase — equipment selection, duct routing, equipment room sizing, and ventilation strategy — have a direct impact on comfort, efficiency, and operating costs for the life of the building.
Involving your HVAC contractor early in the process allows for optimized duct routing that minimizes pressure losses, properly sized equipment rooms, and a ventilation strategy that meets code while maximizing indoor air quality. Changes made after framing is complete are significantly more expensive and often result in compromises.
Ontario Building Code Requirement
Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV)
Ontario Building Code requires HRV installation in all new residential construction. As HRV specialists, we design and install systems that meet code requirements while maximizing fresh air delivery and energy recovery.
Energy Recovery
HRVs recover 70–80% of the heat energy from exhaust air, dramatically reducing the energy cost of ventilation in cold climates.
Fresh Air Delivery
Continuous fresh air supply to bedrooms and living areas — eliminating stale air, excess CO₂, and indoor pollutants without opening windows.
Moisture Control
Proper ventilation removes excess moisture from cooking, bathing, and occupancy — preventing condensation, mould, and structural damage.
Code Compliance
All HRV installations are designed and installed to meet Ontario Building Code Section 9.32 ventilation requirements and ASHRAE 62.2 standards.
From Blueprint to Commissioning
Our Pre-Construction HVAC Process
Design Consultation
We review your architectural plans, discuss your comfort goals and budget, and perform Manual J load calculations to determine the optimal system configuration for your new home.
System Design & Permitting
We produce a complete HVAC design including duct layout, equipment specifications, and HRV/ventilation plan. We apply for all required mechanical permits before work begins.
Rough-In Stage
During framing, we install all ductwork, gas piping, refrigerant lines, and HRV ducting. We coordinate with your builder and other trades to maintain the construction schedule.
Equipment Installation & Commissioning
After drywall, we install all equipment, make final connections, and commission the complete system — including balancing, thermostat programming, and HRV calibration.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I involve an HVAC contractor in new construction?
As early as possible — ideally during the design phase. Early involvement allows us to optimize duct routing, equipment placement, and system design before walls are closed. This saves money and ensures better results.
Is an HRV required in new Ontario homes?
Yes — Ontario Building Code requires Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs) in all new residential construction. HRVs provide fresh air ventilation while recovering heat from exhaust air, improving both air quality and efficiency.
What is a Manual J load calculation?
Manual J is the industry-standard method for calculating a home's heating and cooling loads based on insulation, windows, orientation, and climate. Proper load calculations ensure your HVAC system is correctly sized — not too big, not too small.
Can you work with our builder?
Absolutely. We regularly work as HVAC subcontractors for residential and commercial builders across the GTA. We're experienced in coordinating with other trades and meeting construction schedules.
Do you handle permits for new construction HVAC?
Yes — we manage all required mechanical permits and coordinate inspections with the local building department. All our work is fully permitted and code-compliant.
